This 4-day, 3-night expedition on Mount Kenya's Sirimon Route offers an exhilarating climb to Point Lenana (4,985m ASL), the third-highest peak. Designed for intermediate to advanced hikers, it's considered a less arduous path to the summit. The journey begins and ends at Sirimon Gate, traversing breathtaking landscapes including Sirimon Gorge, Likii North Valley, and Mackinder Valley. Participants will experience high-altitude acclimatization, challenging treks, and the reward of a sunrise view from the summit, culminating in a profound sense of accomplishment.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Depart Nairobi for Sirimon Gate at 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, connect with the Outdoorer Mt. Kenya team and complete registration (ID and proof of residency required). Drive 9km on a paved road through the forest to Old Moses Camp, which will be home for the night. After lunch, take a light 2.5km stroll to the weather station for altitude acclimatization. Enjoy evening tea, snacks, and dinner, then retire early.

After breakfast, begin the 14km hike to Shiptons Camp. The trail passes three river crossings and the breathtaking Likii and Mackinder Valleys, offering glorious views of the peaks if the weather is favorable. A brief stop will be made by a river at Lunch Point for packed lunch. The ascent concludes at Shiptons Camp, right below the peaks, where the night will be spent.

Wake up at 2 a.m., have breakfast, and begin the steep 2.5km trek to Point Lenana (4,985m ASL) by 2:45 a.m. An early ascent aims for magical sunrise views from the summit. After conquering Point Lenana, descend back to Shiptons Camp for breakfast. Collect packed lunch and embark on a 14km trek down to Old Moses Camp for the final night.
